Theatre Summer Camp for Kids!

Tampa Fringe has hosted Kids Fringe for 5 years – now it’s time for the kids to be the stars! Taught by fully screened theatre education professionals, our Summer theatre devising camp offers exciting programming each week, fusing the performing arts with STEM subject material. Each day, your child will learn choral singing, developing their ability to harmonize, they will learn how to improvise and develop scenes, and they will get to learn the basics of numerous design areas – puppet making, costuming, lighting, and more! Fridays will culminate in a showcase, and Week 6 we combine for a full show! Both gluttons for the stage and those who prefer backstage welcome.

Our Summer Camp takes place at the Kress Contemporary in Ybor City, right on 7th Avenue in our secure building. Kids will be learning and performing in our real black box theatre, and in the beautiful West Annex events space, which includes an interior courtyard so we can ensure sunshine and fresh air during lunch time!

This year’s theme: A World without Arts?!

Something has stolen creativity from the world! Each week campers investigate a different mystery connecting ART to STEM. Through theatre games, writing, singing & improv, campers create their own scenes, songs and more to stage.

Week 1 – “The Great Style Heist” June 29 – July 3

Someone has stolen style from the world! Clothes are boring, buildings are gray, and everything looks the same. Campers will design wild costumes, invent ridiculous buildings, and create scenes about a world where style vanished.

Week 2 – “When Nature Lost Its Wow” July 6 – July 10

Flowers have lost their colors and animals aren’t amazing anymore. Campers will create imaginative characters inspired by plants and animals and perform scenes about a world where nature became ordinary.

Week 3 – “Cosmic Creativity Crisis” July 13 – 17

What if the universe lost its patterns? From strange shapes to mysterious galaxies, campers will explore the hidden beauty of math and space while creating funny and imaginative sci-fi theatre.

Week 4 – “The Blandening” July 20 – 24

Disaster! Food has lost its flavor and every place in the world looks the same. Campers will invent bizarre restaurants, unusual travelers, and hilarious scenes about a very boring world.

Week 5 – “The Expression Emergency” July 27 – 31

People can’t speak creatively or move with style anymore! No storytelling, no celebration dances, no exciting sports moments.

Week 6 – “The Day the World Lost Its Imagination” August 3 – 7

What is a world without art? Campers will use comedy, music and devising to create scenes, songs, and combine with previous weeks pieces to create a full show!
